About Image Metadata Tools

A client-side image inspection and metadata cleaning suite designed for in-browser processing, fail-closed handling, and byte-for-byte preservation of compressed image data.

Core Principles

100% Local Processing

Image decoding, parsing, rewriting, and validation run in your browser. Media files are not transmitted to an external server by these tools.

Fail-Closed Safety

If a file contains unknown critical markers, arithmetic coding, or corrupt byte boundaries, processing stops and the tool refuses to produce an output file.

Lossless Rewriting

Compressed image scan data (JPEG SOS, PNG IDAT, WebP VP8/VP8L) is preserved byte-for-byte without decompressing or recompressing pixels.

Supported Format Matrix

✓ JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg)Full inspection and lossless removal of EXIF, XMP, IPTC, and COM metadata.
✓ PNG (.png)Chunk inspection and text/eXIf cleaning while preserving IDAT data.
✓ WebP (.webp)RIFF parsing and EXIF/XMP removal while preserving VP8/VP8L data.
✓ PDF (.pdf)Removes supported document information and detected catalog/page XMP metadata. PDFs are re-serialized; encrypted, password-protected, or signed files may be refused. This is not a redaction tool.
✗ HEIC, AVIF, TIFF, RAWNot supported; these files are safely rejected using fail-closed handling.

Important Privacy Boundaries

Removing metadata removes embedded technical containers, but does not guarantee anonymity. Media may still be identifiable through visual features such as faces, distinctive landmarks, or vehicle license plates, or through platform-side perceptual hashing. This tool is a practical aid, not a forensic anonymisation service.
